Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer was built by Bhati Rajput king Maharawal Rao Jaisal in the 1156 AD, and before changing his capital from Ludurva to Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is located in south-west Rajasthan in western India
It is situated in southern area of Thar Desert and its height is 255 meters above ocean level. It is also known as “Golden City.” Jaisalmer is now a district of Rajasthan state.
Major Attractions of Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer FortJaisalmer fort was built by (Bhati Rajput Emperor) Maharawal Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD. Fort was built on a triangular Trikuta hill; 76 meters above from the ground. Jaisalmer fort has 9 meters wide walls with 99 bastions. Wells inside the fort are still the regular sources of water. It is also called Golden Fort.
Jaisalmer Havelis
Jaisalmer Havelis were built by the rich merchants for Jaisalmer. They are popular for their special cutwork, constructed in yellow & red stone and bracket-created decorations of peacocks. There are three splendid Havelis, which are Nathmal-Ki-Haveli, Salim-Singh-Ki-Haveli and Patwon- Ki –Haveli.
Gadsisar Sagar Lake
Gadsisar Sagar Lake is famous as a picnic spot. The lake is an attraction for different types Birds about 100 species during winter season.
Bara Bagh
Bara Bagh is situated on the banks of the Gadsisar Sagar Lake. It is a sanctuary in the Thar Desert. Lush green garden there gives much more needed relief for the local people.
Tazia Tower
Pagoda such as this tower rises from the place of clouds (Badal Mahal). Every storey
of this tower includes five-tiered Tazia Tower and has a beautiful carved balcony.
Desert National Park
Desert National Park is located nearby Jaisalmer. This Desert Park is one of the biggest national parks in India and it is covering an area of about 3,100 square Kilometers. The national park is known for its delicate ecology, single flora, and fauna.
Sam Sand Dunes
Sam Sand Dunes is located at the boundary of the Thar Desert. This is major tourist attractions near Jaisalmer. Enjoying camel safari on the Sam Sand Dunes is really a memorable experience and this is famous for incredibly beautiful sunset.
Other tourist’s attractions in Jaisalmer are the colorful Desert Festivals held in January and February every year.
How to Reach Jaisalmer
By Road
Regular bus services are available from all major cities of India and Rajasthan. Jaisalmer is well connected by road to other parts of India. Many private and government buses are available at a fair interval. Jaisalmers main Bus Stand is located near Railway Station.
By Train
Jaisalmer is well connected by Indian railway network to all major cities of India and Rajasthan. There are several daily trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Mathura, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Jaipur etc.
By Air
Jaisalmer has a very good Airport facility and has flights from all major cities of India, such as Jodhpur, Jaipur, and New Delhi. Its Airport is in cantonment area, which is just 5 kilometers away from the center of the city. The Airport is managed and maintained by the Indian Air Force. This Airport is available for civil/tourist flights from September to March, the peak season. Other nearest Airports include Jodhpur and Jaipur.
